The water resistant barrier or WRB as it is called in the industry, is the last line of protection against water infiltration into your home. It consists of building wraps, flashing's, and membranes that provide a continuous water-resistive barrier behind the exterior wall veneer. An important component to the wrb is the building paper or home wrap. There are many choices but we prefer to use Rain Drop building wrap by GreenGuard for a few reasons. RainDrop’s innovative drainage channels keep water out of the wall system. The channels won’t crimp, collapse, or flatten, ensuring water will drain no matter how tightly cladding is nailed to the wall. Because it’s not perforated, RainDrop resists air and water infiltration. Plus it breathes to allow moisture vapor to escape. With its high tear resistance and translucent design, installation is quick and easy with no job site waste. And it stays UV-stable up to 4 months. RainDrop is an ideal secondary weather barrier for fiber cement, vinyl, foam-backed vinyl, and wood sidings.
Another important component is metal and self-adhered flashing's. These products are used around penetrations in the wall cavity as well as many other purposes.
